Tonight’s Menu –

Vengeful Vegetable soup – 13 Ingredient soup: Butter; Olive Oil; Carrot; Onion; Garlic; Celery; Potato; Lentils; Tomato Puree; Stock; Shitake; Champignon; Porcini.

Perillous Pasta Bake – 13 Ingredient pasta bake served with 13 slices of garlic bread. Pasta; Onion; Celery; Fennel; Peas; Courgette; Garlic; Smoked River Cobbler; Olive Oil; Bay leaf; Thyme; Stock; Cheddar Cheese.

Beelzebub’s Brownies – 13 Chocolate and walnut brownies served with vanilla ice cream.

The ninth of our thirteenfridays meals.

To follow the Guy Fawkes bonfire burning, baked, burnt and smoky food seems appropriate.

Numinous nibbles – 13 Roasted and toasted savory nibbles – Soya beans, Black beans, Green peas, Split broad beans, Whole broad beans with shell, Sunflower seeds, Pumpkin seeds, Linseeds, Sesame seeds, Hemp seeds, Soya sauce, Salt, Rapeseed oil.

Malefic Mackerel Pate – Smoked mackerel pate on 13 pieces of sourdough bread and spelted wholemeal bread baked by Jack Smylie Wild.

Scary Sausage Cobbler & Perilous 13 Potato Gratin – 13 ingredient sausage cobbler; Onion, Carrot, Celery, Garlic, Thyme, Bay leaf, Olive oil, Vegetable stock, SR Flour, Butter, milk 13 Vegetarian sausages, Smoked cheddar cheese. Perilous 13 Potato Gratin by guest Zoë Dan.

The eighth of our thirteenfridays meals

On Halloween we started preparing for the festival with some appropriate ale. Our bottle of Spooks Ales was bought while we were in Ilfracombe earlier this year for the Ilfra Expo, check out our holiday snaps.

All Hallows’ Day Menu –
Friday’s meal served with deceptively powerful Ghostini cocktails!

Ghoulish Garlic Eyes – 13 doughballs with black olives, served with garlic butter and sour cream and chive dip.

Seer’s Seefood Paella – 13 ingredient paella (Onion, Green pepper, Garlic, Saffron, Black Olives, King Scallops, King Prawns, Crevettes, Rice, Fish Stock, Vermouth, Lemon, Parsley).

Ghostly Biscuits & Evil Eyes – 13 Sweet vanilla biscuits and 13 chocolate cake balls.

The seventh of our thirteenfridays meals was designed and prepared by guest chef, Kirsten Hinks. Unfortunately I couldn’t be there so I missed out on this frighteningly good looking fare!

Tonight’s Menu –

Chilling Crostini Chevre – 13 goats cheese and fig crostini.

Portentous Poisson & Pomme Frites – 13 goujon of cod with 13 chunky chips and homemade tartar sauce.

Gateâu St Jude – puff pastry, chocolate and vanilla cream with 13 choux buns. St Jude is the patron Saint of desperate cases and lost causes and his day is 28 October (the big storm forecast for this Sunday is called St Jude).

Terrifying Toad in the Hole – 13 sausage toad in the hole with 13 roast potatoes, 13 peices of carrot, 13 sliced runner beans, 13 Broccoli florets and 13floz of gravy.

Trembling Trifle – (13 ingredients) brandy, sponge, tinned raspberries, tinned Strawberries, tinned peaches, fresh strawberries, jelly, custard, cream, 13 flake pieces, dark chocolate shavings, 13 fresh raspberries, 13 blueberries.

Tonight’s Menu –

Sinister Starters – 13 Vegetable Pakora, 13 Pappadoms and 13 Onion Bahjias with a selection of chutney, pickle and raita.

Spooky Spiced Fish – Fish Curry with 13 spices (Bay Leaf, Black Cardamom, Black Mustard seeds, Black Onion seeds, Chili, Cinammon, Clove, Coriander, Cumin, Fenugreek, Garlic, Ginger).
Served with another 12 items – Aloo saag, garlic potato, spiced courgette, spiced Aubergine, Peshwari and plain Naan, Pilau and plain rice, chili pickle, lime pickle, Apple chutney and Raita to make a total of 13!

There seems to be a general consensus that both 13 and friday are individually unlucky so together they become disastrous! this article might explain some of the origins of our fears!

Several stories revolve around food and meals so to celebrate the two Friday 13ths in 2013 (13 weeks apart) we are creating 13 meals over 13 weeks each involving the number 13.

Our first thirteenfridays meal

Tonight’s menu –

Antichristi – 13 devilishly good antipasti with 13 slices of jalapeno cheese bread

Frightfully fishy pie – (13 ingredients) salmon, river cobbler, smoked cod, king prawn, scallops, onion, chestnut mushrooms (13), shitake mushrooms (13), black pepper, 13floz stock, white wine, dill & topped with 13 slices of potato. Presented with 13 peices of roast squash, 13 peices of carrot and 13 broccoli florets.

Loki’s Lychee, raspberry and rose tart – (13 ingredients) 13 lychees, 13 raspberries, egg yolks, rose water, caster sugar, demerara sugar, butter, SR flour, wholemeal flour, almonds, walnuts, cream, 13 mint leaves. Prepared by Kirsten Hinks
