Spooky Spaghetti with Prawns – Italian style prawns and spaghetti with 13 ingredients – Spaghetti; King Prawns; Rocket; Baby plum tomatoes; Tomato Puree; Garlic; Dried Red Chili; Butter; Olive Oil; Lemon; Onion; Red Pepper; Sundried Tomatoes;

Terrifying Chocolate, Almond and Chestnut Torte – A rich dark chocolate torte made with ground almonds, orange, cinnamon and 13 roasted chestnuts, decorated with 13 roasted whole almonds. Served with extra thick fresh cream.

Prawn Toast Terror – 13 pieces of prawn toast served with Soy, Plum and Sweet Chili dipping sauces

Sinister Stir Fry – 13 ingredient stirfry: Spring Onion, Baby Sweetcorn, Carrot, Ginger, Garlic, Beansprouts, Red Pepper, White Cabbage, Quorn Strips, Shitake Mushrooms, Soy Sauce, Sesame Oil, Noodles.

Abominable Almond Cookies – 13 Almond cookies served with Vanilla Ice Cream and Lychee and rose water puree.

Peski Pappadoms & Pickles – 13 Pappadoms with a selection of pickles, chutneys and raita.
Creepy King Prawn Biryani – 13 spice king prawn biryani (Aniseed, Cumin, Coriander, Green Cardomon, Black Cardomon, Cinnamon, Chili, Garlic, Ginger, Turmeric, Clove, Black Mustard seed, Fenugreek) served with a 13 ingredient vegetable curry (Onion, Carrot, Aubergines, Sweet Pepper, Courgette, Tomatoes, Cumin, Coriander, Ginger, Garlic, Chili, Bay Leaf, Butter).

Malign Malai Ful Khaja – 13 Filo parcels with sweet paneer, pistachios and rose water syrup.

To follow the Guy Fawkes bonfire burning, baked, burnt and smoky food seems appropriate.

Harrowing Hallowtide
The eighth of our thirteenfridays meals
On Halloween we started preparing for the festival with some appropriate ale. Our bottle of Spooks Ales was bought while we were in Ilfracombe earlier this year for the Ilfra Expo, check out our holiday snaps.

All Hallows’ Day Menu –
Friday’s meal served with deceptively powerful Ghostini cocktails!


Ghoulish Garlic Eyes – 13 doughballs with black olives, served with garlic butter and sour cream and chive dip.

Seer’s Seefood Paella – 13 ingredient paella (Onion, Green pepper, Garlic, Saffron, Black Olives, King Scallops, King Prawns, Crevettes, Rice, Fish Stock, Vermouth, Lemon, Parsley).

Ghostly Biscuits & Evil Eyes – 13 Sweet vanilla biscuits and 13 chocolate cake balls.

Hallowtide celebrations continue with some Soul Cakes for All Souls Day
Fiendish Franglais
The seventh of our thirteenfridays meals was designed and prepared by guest chef, Kirsten Hinks. Unfortunately I couldn’t be there so I missed out on this frighteningly good looking fare!
Tonight’s Menu –

Chilling Crostini Chevre – 13 goats cheese and fig crostini.

Portentous Poisson & Pomme Frites – 13 goujon of cod with 13 chunky chips and homemade tartar sauce.

Gateâu St Jude – puff pastry, chocolate and vanilla cream with 13 choux buns. St Jude is the patron Saint of desperate cases and lost causes and his day is 28 October (the big storm forecast for this Sunday is called St Jude).

The sixth of our thirteenfridays meals was away from home in Cardiff during the Made in Roath Arts Festival where we were both showing with The Rhôd Artists Group.

The fifth of our thirteenfridays meals with San Miguel and Mezcal.
Tonight’s Menu –

Ominous accompaniments – 13 pieces of Corn bread and a 13 ingredient salad (Lettuce, Tomato, Cucumber, Sweet corn, Red pepper, Yellow pepper, Orange pepper, Green beans, Avocado, Celery, Carrot, Coriander, Eggs.

Camarones a la diabla – 13 Frighteningly fiery jumbo king prawns in a 3 chili, lime and tomato sauce. Served with sour cream and corn bread.

Chilling Chilli sans Carne – (13 ingredients) Onion, Carrot, Red pepper, Tomatoes, Quorn mince, Red kidney beans, Garlic, Bay leaf, Dark chocolate, Thyme, Chilies, Cholula sauce, Stock. Served with 13 spicy Asparagus spears, plain boiled rice, salad and corn bread.

Citlalicue’s Kahlua balls – 13 rich chocolate biscuit, sweet coffee liqueur and mixed nut balls dusted with powdered sugar. Made by Kirsten Hinks.

Tonight’s Menu –

Ghostly Garlic Bread & Preternatural Potato Wedges – 13 slices of garlic bread & 13 seasoned potato wedges served with a selection of dips.

Paranormal Pizzas – 13 toppings on 4 pizzas, divided into 13.
Tomato, Mushrooms, Olives, Sweet Red Pepper, Pickled Jalapeno Peppers, Red Leicester, Cheddar, Mozzarella, Parmesan, Tuna, Anchovy, Oregano, Pineapple.
