Ominous accompaniments – 13 pieces of Corn bread and a 13 ingredient salad (Lettuce, Tomato, Cucumber, Sweet corn, Red pepper, Yellow pepper, Orange pepper, Green beans, Avocado, Celery, Carrot, Coriander, Eggs.

Camarones a la Diabla
Camarones a la diabla – 13 Frighteningly fiery jumbo king prawns in a 3 chili, lime and tomato sauce. Served with sour cream and corn bread.

Chili
Chilling Chilli sans Carne – (13 ingredients) Onion, Carrot, Red pepper, Tomatoes, Quorn mince, Red kidney beans, Garlic, Bay leaf, Dark chocolate, Thyme, Chilies, Cholula sauce, Stock.  Served with 13 spicy Asparagus spears, plain boiled rice, salad and corn bread.

KalhuaBalls
Citlalicue’s Kahlua balls – 13 rich chocolate biscuit, sweet coffee liqueur and mixed nut balls dusted with powdered sugar. Made by Kirsten Hinks.

Terrifying Toad in the Hole – 13 sausage toad in the hole with 13 roast potatoes, 13 peices of carrot, 13 sliced runner beans, 13 Broccoli florets and 13floz of gravy.

Trifle
Trembling Trifle – (13 ingredients) brandy, sponge, tinned raspberries, tinned Strawberries, tinned peaches, fresh strawberries, jelly, custard, cream, 13 flake pieces, dark chocolate shavings, 13 fresh raspberries, 13 blueberries.

Tonight’s Menu
Starter
Sinister Starters – 13 Vegetable Pakora, 13 Pappadoms and 13 Onion Bahjias with a selection of chutney, pickle and raita.

Mains
Spooky Spiced Fish – Fish Curry with 13 spices (Bay Leaf, Black Cardamom, Black Mustard seeds, Black Onion seeds, Chili, Cinammon, Clove, Coriander, Cumin, Fenugreek, Garlic, Ginger).
Served with another 12 items – Aloo saag, garlic potato, spiced courgette, spiced Aubergine, Peshwari and plain Naan, Pilau and plain rice, chili pickle, lime pickle, Apple chutney and Raita to make a total of 13!

Sweet
Creepy Cardamom & Almond Barfi – 13 pieces of sweet chickpea fudge

What’s in a number?
There seems to be a general consensus that both 13 and friday are individually unlucky so together they become disastrous! this article might explain some of the origins of our fears!

Several stories revolve around food and meals so to celebrate the two Friday 13ths in 2013 (13 weeks apart) we are creating 13 meals over 13 weeks each involving the number 13.

Antichristi
Antichristi – 13 devilishly good antipasti with 13 slices of jalapeno cheese bread

Fishy
Frightfully fishy pie – (13 ingredients) salmon, river cobbler, smoked cod, king prawn, scallops, onion, chestnut mushrooms (13), shitake mushrooms (13), black pepper, 13floz stock, white wine, dill & topped with 13 slices of potato. Presented with 13 peices of roast squash, 13 peices of carrot and 13 broccoli florets.

Tarty
Loki’s Lychee, raspberry and rose tart – (13 ingredients) 13 lychees, 13 raspberries, egg yolks, rose water, caster sugar, demerara sugar, butter, SR flour, wholemeal flour, almonds, walnuts, cream, 13 mint leaves.  Prepared by Kirsten Hinks
